A Winter Engagement Session at the Louisville Public Library

Some engagement sessions stick with you — not just because of the location or the light, but because of the people.
Alexis and Nick’s session was one of those.

We photographed their engagement session early in the year, right in that January–February window where Kentucky weather is unpredictable at best. Cold, gray, and not exactly known for outdoor-friendly conditions. When we first started planning, we knew we’d need a backup that still felt elevated, timeless, and intentional.

Enter: the Louisville Free Public Library.

And wow… it delivered.
A Venue That Felt Like a Dream

Coming from a small town where buildings like this simply don’t exist, walking into the main entrance of the library honestly stopped me in my tracks. The architecture, the scale, the light filtering through — it felt grand without feeling stuffy. Romantic without trying too hard. The kind of place that instantly makes photos feel editorial and timeless.
It was the perfect solution for a chilly winter engagement session — and proof that you don’t need sunshine and wildflowers to create something stunning.

A Connection You Could Feel
From the moment Alexis and Nick arrived, I could tell how deeply connected they were. The kind of love that’s quiet but confident. Effortless. The kind where they don’t need to be told what to do — they naturally gravitate toward each other.

Their connection wasn’t just visible… it was felt.

Alexis chose a white dress with delicate lace details — a subtle nod to her bride era without feeling overly formal or stiff. It was romantic, intentional, and perfectly balanced against the elegance of the space. Nick’s look complemented hers beautifully, letting their chemistry take center stage.
Together, their love paired with the beauty of the location absolutely knocked these images out of the water.

The Kind of Clients That Warm a Photographer’s Heart
Here’s the part that still gets me:
Alexis and Nick drove about two hours to meet me for this session — and their wedding venue was actually three and a half hours away from where I live.
They found me by chance because I followed their venue on social media — The Bluegrass Palace — a venue that had been on my dream list for awhile. When they reached out, I was already excited… and after working with them, I was all in.

The fact that they were willing to travel that far, trust me with their story, and show up with so much openness and love truly meant the world. It’s the kind of thing that reminds me why I do this.

A Reminder That Love (and Good Light) Shows Up Anywhere
This session was a reminder that:
Winter sessions can be just as magical
Indoor locations can feel just as romantic as outdoor ones
And when a couple is this in love, the setting simply becomes the frame — not the focus

Alexis and Nick’s engagement session was equal parts elegant, intimate, and full of heart — and it set the tone perfectly for what was to come next.
I’ll be dreaming about this one for a long time.
