What To Wear For Your Session
Family Style Ideas
Ok, so you have booked your session and now it's time to start planning. You will most likely start with the big question of what will everyone wear? Trying to pick out colors, and deciding what everyone will wear can be a daunting task. So I have put together some style ideas to help you along the way. I have a couple color palettes, outfit ideas, and even links you can shop directly from on Amazon. (*affiliate links embedded*)
Once you have a color palette in mind, I find it easiest to start with mom's outfit and build out everyone else's from that. Try to look for items that have movement and beautiful textures. Layers can also add movement! Think maxi dresses, skirts, cardigans, light jackets, etc.

Little girls are probably the easiest to dress because of the endless options in stores for them. Be sure to try to avoid harsh, bright colors, like neons though. The light can reflect off of these colors and cast back onto their skin, and those around them. Those cute little faces, aren't quite as cute in pictures with neon pink or yellow casted on their skin. Here are some of my favorite picks from Amazon for little girls.
The men and boys need to look cute too! Here are a couple of ideas for the boys!
Coordinating Colors vs Matching
Coordinating colors is key! Gone are the days of everyone wearing the exact same colors, or everyone showing up in the same polos and khakis. Pick 2-3 coordinating colors that compliment each other, and build your outfits from there. Add in a small pattern here and there like a floral. Try to avoid having more than one of the exact same pattern on anyone in your group. If dad is already in plaid, then little Johnny doesn't need to have plaid on as well. It distracts from the actual subject of the images, which is your family!
When it comes to the day of your session, we are shooting for simple and comfortable. Something that won't take away from the beauty of your family, and also won't make your skin look neon pink! Keep it simple. Keep it true to your style.
